Linda Rae Artist

We had a birthday party for Master 6 on the weekend and its was an excellent opportunity to showcase some of the art work that Linda Rae Artist creates. Not only does Linda do fantastic face and body painting but she also makes gorgeous costumes and outrageous cakes, you can see the awesome pole dancer cake she did for Studio P's first birthday on her facebook page. Master 6 wanted to be a tiger: A beautiful butterfly: A lion: Two big cats on the prowl: An SAS soldier: The cutest little puppy dog you ever did see: A big scary dragon: A flower fairy and a butterfly: Not every kid wants painting on their face so this young fella got the Hulk: This one is just a precious little minx! All the happy little critters singing happy birthday: Linda charges $100 an hour but that should enough for 12-14 kids, if you would like to make a booking or would like to find out more call 0400 248 500 or email lindarae80@gmail.com

Ahead of Time Hair Salon

As far as hair salons in Kal go you don't get much better than Ahead of Time (in my books anyway). The staff are super friendly and talented and well equipped to cater to pretty much any hair request you might have be that a simple cut or colour, bridal looks or a fantastic do for the ball. To me the mark of a good hairdresser is one who is willing to try different things themselves so they know what looks good and far you can take a look without going totally over the top. I love this p...

Beauty Favs - His and Hers

My husband is not a 'metrosexual' by any stretch of the imagination, he is however a fan of Jean Paul Gaultier Pour Homme, Nivea shaving products and now The Body Shop's Of A Man 3 in 1 cleanser, shampoo and skin conditioner. This really is fabulous product, you don't need to use much of it so it lasts for ages and at $25.95 for 200ml that's a good thing! My skin care routine currently is Nude by Nature's foaming cleanser or scrub, Nude by Nature toner, this fantastic ...

Merredin Tin Signs and Novelties

The Boulder Markets at the Races yielded a lovely surprise in the form of Merredin Tin Signs and Novelties, cheeky slogans with old school charm. I can't wait to build our bar/shed so I can adorn it with these little treasures (and the Craven clock from the second hand shed!) Kangaroo anyone? I remember these signs at the petrol stations on the drive to Perth from Kal when I was a kid: Along with the signs they also sell these gorgeous necklaces among other things, if you would like t...

Sassy Sues Second Hand Shed

If you thought Sassy Sues store on Hannan St was bursting at the seams, take a quick hop, skip and a jump around the corner onto Egan St across from All Seasons and you will find an even bigger shop that is positively overflowing! Not only are there racks and racks of mens, womens and childrens clothing, there is furniture, knick knacks, books, bags, shoes and all sorts of yesteryear collectibles. Just make sure to bring some cash as there is no eftpos facilities. With all the wonderful thing...

Bows, Clips and Bits

Bows, Clips and Bits have been selling their beautiful pieces for 18 months after wanting to know how to make corkers snowballed into a flourishing business. The ladies mainly sell their goodies through the Boulder Market Days and occasionally at the Lions Kalgoorlie Market, prices start from $2 for a basic clip through to $40 for formal head wear. Head pieces for brides and bridesmaids can be purchased along with other custom pieces made to order. I think for $70, using the finest materials ...

Geeky Little Sister does it better!

This post was a little tricky for me as it highlighted my complete lack of technical knowledge needed to use all the wonderful examples of work Linda Parker has done, so instead I will just show you her logo for her super clever business 'Geeky Little Sister". Linda, originally from Bremer Bay, lived in Kal for 4 years then packed her bags and went traveling through Canada and Ireland and has been back in town for 18 months. Newly established and busting to go, Linda has both left brain and righ...

Fossick for the perfect accessory!

I love anything Asian themed and the geisha on the skirt by Perth designer Megan Salmon is gorgeous and its all yours at Fossick! They also have some lovely locally crafted jewellery and fascinators which could be the missing part of your perfect Race Round outfit! This button necklace is so cute, what a simple but really effective idea! Gorgeous earrings alert: I want that key necklace, it reminds me of that room full of flying keys in Harry Potter: This headpiece is stunning and indi...

Courtz Hair - perfectly straight!

Armed with nothing more than a blow dryer, some Moroccan Oil and her Silver Bullet straighteners Miss Courtney was able to transform me from glum to GLAM! Thank you Courtz, I got lots of positive comments and even had a lady touch my hair and check the cut to tell me she used to be a hairdresser and she was very impressed as my hair looked great! If that's not a vote of confidence what is? Before: And After (yay!!): ...

St Barbara Cafe

Gone is the little japanese joint, replaced with a nice little cafe that doesn't sell anything for over $15!! I love the black and white theme inside and the food is really nice, awesome value for money which is getting to be rare at eateries around Kal (unfortunately - there a reason the Kalgoorlie Food Critics group on facebook has over 500 members, sad but true!) Speaking of which I might share this post with said group as patronage to St Barbara Cafe is something I'm happy to enco...
